This polish instruction tip shows how to restore and polish a dirty, greasy, rusted & tarnished Barclo wrench. This open end wrench was made in Buffalo, NY in the 30s or 40s. This brand of wrenches was often sold at Western Auto Supply Stores and old military guys remember when they were include in the Willy’s Jeeps. We brought new life to this old forged chrome molybdenn wrench with very little elbow grease and a dab or two of Simchrome Polish.

Nitrile Gloves

Paper towels

Application:

1. Apply a small amount of Simichrome polish about the size of a pencil eraser in a couple of places on the wrench surface. Spread the polish out evenly and rub it on with the finger tips of your nitrile gloved hand in small circular motions.

2. With a soft paper towel rub the polish and remove excess, flipping the paper towel to clean areas to remove tarnish. When you see the black corrosion lifting off the wrench onto the paper towel, you will be glad you used the nitrile gloves to keep your hands clean.

3. Repeat steps one and two until you are satisfied that the chrome dullnessis gone and the shine is beginning to be restored. Then repeat the process on the other side of the wrench.

4. Next buff with a microfiber cloth to a shine. Simichrome will leave a film on the wrench that is not greasy. This retards corrosion and tarnish so your looks better longer. Also if you do get any grease or oil on it in the future, a microfiber cloth will will wipe the wrench clean far easier than before. Elapsed time to shine this wrench was well under 4 minutes.

My car has chrome wheels that get very dull and stained over time. So I have been using Happich polish to clean up my wheels since I bought the car new. I figure I have gone through 20-25 tubes of Happich polish over the preceding 21 years. I decided you had a great price on a can of polish so I went for a larger amount of the stuff. I found you thru goggle.
I polish the wheels and then I put a coat of paste wax on them. Usually about 6 months goes by before I have to do it again.”

Recently a member of a local church group told us how upset they were that their community room’s new Vulcan gas range had received a bad burn mark on it’s stainless steel back splash. They had tried a number of cleaners but were having little luck. We recommended Simichrome polish. They applied it in the normal manner, just a little dab right out of the tube applied with a microfiber cloth. A few applications later and you can see the results for yourself. It took less than 10 minutes to clean.

The above quote was e-mailed to us by a customer after reading a post and then ordering & using the faucet polish kit we featured in a post dated October 7, 2008. This kit has 3 great products in it, Simichrome polish, Flitz Faucet & Fixture Wax and a large microfiber cloth.

If you would like to read the original post which includes step by step instructions about polishing faucets along with a video, click here.

This popular kit is still made and easy to get. If you have faucets, other bath or kitchen fixtures that need a little TLC and would like to buy this same Faucet & Fixture Care Kit that was commented, click here to purchase it online or get more information from our recommended supplier.

Again, available MANY places online and local.

Mother’s Mag. Available in most automotive and motorcycle shops and often at Wal-Mart.
This is one of the most often recommended.

MAAS:
Online and locally.

Truth is most any good grade metal polish recommended for stainless will do.
Just be careful not to over do it, since this will make the metal too shiny.
If what you want is a bright polish job, get the Mother’s Mag.

When using ANY metal polish on guns with finishes other than stainless steel, be careful. ALL metal polishes are abrasive, no matter WHAT they may say.
Use too often or too hard, and these will all strip bluing and other gun finishes off.
While they will also polish plastic, you may not want a shiny, slick polymer frame.

So, for a bright, high mirror-like shine, use Mother’s Mag, for ordinary use, Flitz is milder.

” I have been using Simichrome for over 30 years to polish the natural aluminum and chrome components on my bicycles. Most of them are now considered collector’s items, but when I was racing the 1970’s almost all bicycles had many parts such as hubs, rims, and seat posts that required polishing to look nice. I’ ll attach a photo that gives you an idea of how I use this excellent product.”
If you can not find Happich Simichrome polish, you can buy it online from WinterBrookFarmAntiques.com They also handle other brands of metal polishes & waxes and can help with any questions you may have.

This post includes not only 2 sets of before and after pictures of exquisite silver punch bowls, but the owners detailed polishing application all of which they were kind enough to e-mail to us so that we might share them with you . The polish used was Happich Simchrome Polish.

“I am sending you some before and after pictures of a silver (or silverplate) punch bowl and a silver Revere bowl that I did yesterday and today, December 11 and 12, 2009. I used Simichrome polish on both of them. It did not take very long – about 1/2 hour for the punch bowl, and another 15 minutes to do the insert that goes in it. I think the bowl might have taken about 1/2 hour or less. On both, I used paper towel to apply the polish. Then I used the yellow polishing cloth to finish the punch bowl, and another microfiber cloth to finish the Revere bowl. Great results! “

Are your silver bowls in need of polishing and a little more eye catching shine? Are you wondering, where can I buy some of that amazing Simichrome polish ? Click here to purchase Simichrome polish from our recommended online source.
1. You may want to remove the adjusting knob and disassemble the caliper leg to do a thorough cleaning of your caliper. Spread a small amount of Simichrome metal polish with the finger tip of your nitrile gloved hand covering all sides of the caliper completely plus the adjusting knob.

2. Let the polish stand for a short time and then gently remove any polish residue with a soft paper towel before it dries.

3. Re-apply following steps 1 & 2 if needed. Buff to the desired sheen with a soft micro fiber cloth for best results. Time elapsed to shine this machinist tool was away less than 5 minutes.

It is always nice to hear back from users of any metal polish to get first hand information from them. Helpful information is what brand was used, how did it work, and would you use it again. An e-mail was sent to us recently as follows……..

“Attached is the picture of our polishing of church items by the ladies of the Altar Guild of St. John Lutheran Church. We used the semi-chrome polish and everyone was quite impressed. As you can see the picture glows. We had used semi-chrome polish many years ago, but got away from it for a few years. I finally convinced them this did a much better job, so now we get together about twice each year, the Altar Guild Ladies along with the 4 deacons, and have a great time for an hour or so to polish everything. Of course the candelabra are done oftener, as sometimes the wax drips and needs extra cleaning, along with the candle savers. We are a country church between Ft. Wayne & Decatur Indiana. Our congregation is over 165 years old and the present church building is approximately 130 years old. In 1995 we added a parish hall, (where we did our polishing), and enjoy it for meetings, Bible Classes, and a Ladies Group that does quilting, which was organized over 100 years ago. I goggled semi-chrome polish, that is how I found your site and found it to be the cheapest and easiest to order from. I have used your site several times, finding it very informative with great service. Orders are sent promptly and easy to track as to when they will arrive. Thanks for the good service.”

I would say that is a pretty good endorsement for Happich Simichrome polish. If you are having trouble locating Simichrome in your home town, why not buy it on line here where the Altar Guild Ladies do. You will get it quickly from a reliable source. You may also be interested in the small Church Polishing Kit or the large Church Polishing kit.
