Removing Burn Marks from a SS Vulcan Range with Simichrome Polish

March 24, 2010 · Filed Under Simichrome · Comment

Recently a member of a local church group told us how upset they were that their community room’s new Vulcan gas range had received a bad burn mark on it’s stainless steel back splash. They had tried a number of cleaners but were having little luck. We recommended Simichrome polish. They applied it in the normal manner, just a little dab right out of the tube applied with a microfiber cloth. A few applications later and you can see the results for yourself. It took less than 10 minutes to clean.

Polishing a Schiller 4 rotary valve tuba with Autosol

This comment was e-mailed to us by a man who found not only thePolishGuy.com videos informative but the products discussed helpful. He also bought the product from our recommended supplier for Autosol Metal Polish, WinterBrookFarmAntiques.com It is appreciated when you mention us and our recommended suppliers to your friends, colleagues and especially if you would give us a link back from your blog or on favorite forums.

“This is in response to your request for feedback about this product. It has amazed me to say the least. I have a very large rotary valve tuba that is normally a gorgeous nickel plated instrument. In places where I need to hold it, I noticed it started to get somewhat of a deep blackened appearance. The nickle shiny luster was fading in those areas. I tried a polishing cloth made for nickel that did not do anything for the blackened area, but did clean off the fingerprints that accumulates. I was concerned that the plating was simply wearing off in those areas of normal use. I began to search on line for more info about cleaning or polishing nickel plated metals, and google brought me to a number of websites to view, yours begin one of them. Your cleaning videos helped me to decide that it was worth trying your product and I felt confident that it would not wear off whatever plating I still had on my instrument. I have used it tonight, and at first was worried as I rubbed the polish on the tuba and saw black coming off into the rag!!After buffing it down and cleaning off the excess polish, I had the nice shiny luster again with no deep blackened area. Unfortunately it will be hard to take a photo that will show this difference because of the curves of the metal at that point and light reflections that make it hard to see the difference unless you look at it real life and move it around.”
