Removing the haze from the cover of a crock pot with Flitz polish

February 17, 2010 · Filed Under Flitz Polish, Microfiber Cloths · Comment

Our crock pot that we love to do our slow cook stews in is getting pretty old. It works fine but the plastic cover had become hard to see through. Rather than throw it out and buy a new one, we decided why not just try to clean the top. Of course it had been washed every time it was used and even put through the dishwasher but it still seemed to get hazier over the years  and hard to see through, making the food somewhat unappetizing as you looked through the cover.

Materials Used
:

Instructions and Application :

1. Right out of the tube squeeze 10 or so pencil size dots of polish around the perimeter of the under side of the plastic crock pot cover.

2. Take a microfiber cloth, or any soft lent free cloth, and rub in the polish in small circles until the entire inside of the cover is cover with a thin film of polish.

3. Turn the microfiber cloth to a clean section and buff off the Flitz polish before it dries.

4. Repeat the steps above for the outside and edges of the cover.

5. If your cover comes out as clean and clear as ours did, you are all set. If you still have a little haze, reapply the Flitz polish and buff again until you get the results you require.

6. Before you use the top again, wash the top with soap and water and even put it through the dishwasher to make sure all remnants of the polish are gone.

Cleaning and brightening stainless steel gun finishes

February 12, 2010 · Filed Under Flitz Polish, Simichrome · Comment

On occasion we hear of inquiries concerning the question of brightening the finish of stainless steel guns etc. This is a post from GunBoards.com from 2008. It compares one users opinion about a number of popular metal polishes for this purpose.

“The most often used polishes for stainless guns are:

Simichrome polish:

This is available MANY places, online and locally.

Flitz. Usually more often recommended then Simichrome due to it’s finer abrasive:

Again, available MANY places online and local.

Mother’s Mag. Available in most automotive and motorcycle shops and often at Wal-Mart.
This is one of the most often recommended.

MAAS:
Online and locally.

Truth is most any good grade metal polish recommended for stainless will do.
Just be careful not to over do it, since this will make the metal too shiny.
If what you want is a bright polish job, get the Mother’s Mag.

When using ANY metal polish on guns with finishes other than stainless steel, be careful. ALL metal polishes are abrasive, no matter WHAT they may say.
Use too often or too hard, and these will all strip bluing and other gun finishes off.
While they will also polish plastic, you may not want a shiny, slick polymer frame.

So, for a bright, high mirror-like shine, use Mother’s Mag, for ordinary use, Flitz is milder.

Using Autosol to remove rust from tractor trailer exhaust stacks

February 7, 2010 · Filed Under Autosol · Comment

Trying to clean up & remove rust stains from exhaust stacks? Recently ran across this post from the8thcivic.com website.

“My stacks on my tractor trailer had rust stains on them where condensation from the exhaust ran down the outside. I polished them yesterday with Autosol polish. Simply rub the product on the let it sit for a minute and then buff it off. Most rust should come off first try but if it doesn’t just try another application. Eventually it will all come off and stay off if you give it an a cleaning every other week with it. One tube will do your exhaust tip for a couple of years.” End of quote.
