Cleaning Gas Fireplace Glass & Trim with Flitz Polish & Waxx
This time of year, one of the most frequent requests we see for information are questions about cleaning white film from the inside of gas fireplace glass. The 2nd is to recommend a safe polish or cleaner for gold plated trim on fireplaces. There are 2 products on the market that seem to fit these needs. Both are made by Flitz Internationl.

We have done a post in the past on cleaning white residue film off fire place glass. If you are interested in reading it again along with the step by step instructions as how it was done click here. In this post are included before and after pictures of the fireplace glass that was cleaned with the Flitz polish. Since the time of the post, Flitz has come out with a product called Flitz Gold Door Hearth Waxx that cleans, polishes and protects the gold trim that may be on your fireplace doors and trim on the surround of your fireplace insert. Flitz recommends this product for items that are plated with a minimum thickness of 5 microns. In other words thinly plated items. It may be used on gold, brass, nickel and other metal trims as well solid or plated. Any polish does remove small amounts of the finish so it is always best not to rub too hard, because over time and many many applications, the plating finish may wear through. If in doubt try it in an inconspicuous place.
