Removing stubborn burned on residue from Cuisinart cookware with Simichrome
Have you ever wondered how to clean a frying pan that has been scorched ?
Recently after cooking some breakfast sausage, I had some residue left on the pan. I put a little water in the pan and left it on a low gas flame for a minute or two so it would loosen. I then planned to wipe it out as usual and wash it with a little soap and water and be all set. Well, as luck would have it, I sat down and ate my breakfast, got distracted and forgot about my beautiful little Cuisinart stainless steel frying pan. I burnt that baby good! It was just black…I thought I had ruined it for sure. I tried cleaning it the way that the Cuisinart’s Manual for Use & Care suggest. That did not work and I feared there was no hope of saving it and making the stainless steel bright again. I then took a Brillo pad and started to scrub it in a tight circular motion. I know you should not use steel wool on this type of cookware, but if I could not clean this pan, it was history anyway. The picture on the bottom left of this post shows the results after scrubbing with the Brillo pad for about 20 minutes. It made the pan usable but pretty unsightly. I then tried some Simichrome polish I had. I was amazed to see that as I applied it to the paper towel and rubbed it in small circles over the bottom of the pan how much black residue was coming off and onto the paper towel. I kept re-applying the polish and taking it off with the towel. It was pretty remarkable how the finish was revived. The picture on the lower right shows the final shine. It took me about 10 minutes of effort to polish the pan with Simichrome polish. I then washed it with warm soapy water, rinsed and dried it. One Cuisinart frying pan saved !!
