Mirror Polishing Alloy Wheels
A question often asked is how do I get a mirror polish finish on my alloy wheels. A good read is 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911 by Wayne R. Dempsey. On page 231 of the book he talks about after having removed the paint and coatings from the wheels, how Beverly Frohm from the Orange County Region of the Porsche Club of America suggests using Mothers Wheel Polish and goes on to tell you the application there of. Also mentioned further down the same page he writes about what he feels is another quality polishing product, namely Wenol. He seems to feel that Wenol polish works like a polishing compound as well as having a chemical reaction that helps to give a good shine with a minimal amount of work. Towards the end of section of Mirror Polishing he mentions a really nice trick that Don Haney of Pelican Parts uses when polishing wheels. Don recommends sprinkling baby powder on the wheels and blowing it off. This reveals scratches in the wheel that are very hard to see with the naked eye. Go over these sections with polish again and you will end up with a superior shine. The book is available for purchase at Barnes & Noble, Borders and Amazon among others.Excerpts from the book can be read here.
| Polish Guy Tip : ” For a deeper shine on your wheels, start with Wenol in the red can and finish with Ultra Soft Wenol in the blue tube. This is a time tested combination that works well. “ |
